While the number of solar installations is increasing, renewable energy isn't always convenient or affordable for commercial properties. While solar energy is often cheaper than alternatives in the long-term, the upfront costs can be significant enough to make building owners question whether they are willing to wait for a lengthy payback. Solar energy is a completely renewable resource. This means that even when we cannot make use of the sun’s power because of nighttime or cloudy and stormy days, we can always rely on the sun showing up the very next day as a constant and consistent power source.
Solar powered flagpole lighting can be installed in environmentally sensitive areas, and locations far removed from the existing electrical connections or where no grid infrastructure exists. And because the costs of trenching and wiring are avoided, solar powered flagpole lighting is often the cheapest solution from day one. Avoided electricity costs will help facility managers keep their utility bills in check.
Yet another advantage of solar powered lighting is that it is not subject to brownouts or blackouts caused by extreme weather events such as hurricanes. They are also immune to the stresses of the electrical grid. Due to their sophisticated battery technology, the lighting systems can continue to shine for five days without a single ray of sunshine.
Conventional lightings can last only for around 5,000 hours. The total life a solar powered flagpole lighting using a LED lamp is as many as around ten times the lifespan of traditional ones.
Some disadvantages are the following. There is a barrage of cheap solar powered flagpole lightings being imported and sold, that do not comply with the flag statute. This is bad for a number of reasons. Imported stuff is cheaply made and more importantly, the designs, materials, colors, and methods do not compare well with the better quality, longer-lasting, and correctly designed flagpole lightings made by American manufacturers.
